George builds the suspense in a third-person narration that most often takes the falcon's perspective, as Frightful hesitates between returning to Sam (who can no longer harbor her) and following the instincts of her breed as a male attempts to court her. Once Alice, Sam's sister, frees the falcon, much of the tension in the novel relates to whether or not Frightful can make it on her own. searching for the one mountain, the one tree, and Sam""). From the beginning of her Hollywood career, some would say, she had two strikes against her: she was Black and she was a woman. With tenacity and talent, she established herself as a first-rate performer in nightclubs, on stage, and eventually in film. By the age of sixteen the young singer-dancer had already been praised by Josephine Baker and had worked with Duke Ellington. Granddaughter of the rebellious son of a slave owner, Nichelle Nichols grew up in a socially progressive family. I loved their sarcastic banter, their constant jibes at each other, and it was nice seeing Rowan slowly falling for Neil. I have a little competitive streak in me, though nothing as intense as them, but it would still annoy me a little. I think if I went to their school, I would really hate them for always coming out on top in every class. I liked their competitiveness, even though it did stress me out a little lol. Rowan and Neil's relationship was quite amusing to read. It's a more realistic portrayal of how people communicate in their day to day, but it almost just makes the reading experience better. I loved the way this book was formatted! I'm glad more YA contemporaries are adding texts and emails and other graphics to the text. Though I might have picked it up at the wrong time since about half way through I just didn't feel in the mood for a YA contemporary. 5/22/2023 0 Comments A million suns by beth revisShe only ebth what he did toward the end and I completely support him. She wants him to choose her first and he did. Maybe she needed someone to blame but can’t she imagine what he was going through? Like trying to prevent a rebellion and dealing with the ship’s problems. I know her life was far from being easy on Godspeedbut couldn’t she stop blaming Elder for everything? Not even Amy soemtimes and sadly, that wasn’t enough to cover her sselfishness. He’s always putting everyone before him and ebth whatever he can to make things better, not many saw that, though. Elder is without doubt, my favorite character in these 2 installments. I wanted to know the secret and the culprit so badly. I did, however, enjoy their attempts to solve the mystery. Sometimes, I couldn’t share their feelings. I didn’t see 3-dimensional characters, Elder was an exception but even not all the time. Even though I liked Elder, it wasn’t enough. My main problem was with Amy, the girl annoyed me so much. Book 2 in the New York Times bestselling trilogy, perfect for fans of Battlestar Gallactica and Prometheus! GODSPEED WAS FUELED BY LIES. People rarely interact face to face anymore – all socializing is done online. That shift leads to more and more reliance on technology. The premise is that in 2060 schools are crime-ridden and too dangerous to attend in person – now all kids must attend digital school (DS). Middle Ground is a solid sequel and I zipped through it quickly, sad to say goodbye to the characters once again. Even though I’m not as into the category anymore, this series holds up, and the digital reliance topic is just as relevant today. I gave Awaken a five-star rating, and in fact it was one of the first books that got me hooked on romantic dystopia. Luckily it all came back to me easily, just like connecting with old friends. I read Awaken over two years ago, so I was worried if I’d remember enough to get through the sequel. Middle Ground is book two of the Awaken trilogy by Katie Kacvinsky. |
